Gary Lee Doan was born on a winter day in Kokomo, Indiana, the first child born to Elmer Lee Doan and Mary Alice Harris after their marriage. He came into the world on January 12, 1945, and in his short time here, he brought joy to all who held him. His baby pictures show a gentle spirit—wide-eyed, curious, and full of promise.
Gary’s life was heartbreakingly brief. After just over a year with his family, he passed away on February 3, 1946, at St. Joseph Hospital due to bronchial pneumonia. He was laid to rest at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo.
“Among the keepsakes lovingly saved is the first page of Gary’s funeral book, along with the signatures of those who came to say farewell. These pages, once touched by grieving hands, now rest here as part of his story, forever remembered.”
These loving memorials were published in the Kokomo Tribune in the years following Gary’s passing—quiet messages of grief, love, and remembrance from a family still holding him close.
Though his time was short, Gary Lee left a mark on the hearts of his family. His memory is preserved here with love, tenderness, and the gentle promise that no life, no matter how brief, is ever forgotten.
